Before a Surgery

Our surgical operations are located at our clinic in Danderyd, Vendevägen 90, plan 1. When you book your surgery, you will receive information about payment, preparations, and when to come to us. This information will be sent to you in writing either by post or via email, as you prefer.

We perform surgeries on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. There may be deviations during holidays.

BOOK/CANCEL

To book an appointment, call 08-219191. If it’s difficult to call during the daytime, you can also email us at info@strandkliniken.se, where we respond to emails within 24 hours on weekdays.

Rescheduling or cancellation of surgery must be done at least 14 working days before the surgery. If the cancellation is not for medical reasons, we will invoice 10% of the surgery cost as a fee. Cancellation for medical reasons applies only to you and must be supported by a medical certificate.

INVITATION

When you book your surgery, we will send you an invitation along with all relevant information about preparations, payment, fasting, and timings. The invitation is sent to you by post or email, depending on your preferences. We recommend that you remain available throughout the surgery day, as it may be necessary to call you in earlier or later.

PAYMENT TERMS

The cost of the surgery must be fully paid at least 14 days before the surgery. You can find the full terms and information about payment [here].

WHAT’S INCLUDED

What’s included in the cost of the surgery and what guarantees we have can be read more about [here].

OBSTACLES/ILLNESS

If you encounter medical problems the week before your surgery, contact us immediately.

MEDICAL CERTIFICATE/SICK LEAVE

For the first two weeks after a surgery, it is your employer who covers your sick leave. Therefore, it’s good to plan your absence in consultation with your employer. You are entitled to sick leave regardless of the reason for the surgery, and the assessment of your work capacity is based on your health condition after the procedure according to the Social Insurance Agency (Försäkringskassan).

If you need sick leave, inform us either at the time of the surgery or during your first follow-up visit. The medical certificate is always valid from the day of surgery and contains information about the surgery you underwent, when it was performed, and whether you are working, on parental leave, or job-seeking, and for how long you are on sick leave. The duration of the sick leave varies depending on what you have done and what you work with. Discuss this with your doctor during the consultation.

Please note that we cannot issue medical certificates in advance.

GYM/TRAINING CERTIFICATE

If you need a certificate to freeze your gym membership, we are happy to arrange this for you. Please note that we do not issue any certificates until after the surgery has been performed.

FASTING

For anaesthesia and sedation, you should fast for at least 6 hours before anaesthesia, i.e., neither eat nor drink.

For local anaesthesia, you should fast for 2 hours before the operation, i.e., you should not eat or drink.

PRESCRIPTIONS

We do not issue any prescriptions in advance. On the day of the surgery, you can get your medications on an electronic prescription. To ensure that the prescription has been received and that your pharmacy has the necessary medication, we recommend using a pharmacy app or logging in to 1177.se. We also recommend that you have Alvedon or paracetamol at home.

ANTIBIOTICS/PENICILLIN

It is not necessary to take antibiotics or penicillin for preventive purposes. They are only given if needed during the surgery and are prescribed only when necessary.

MENSTRUATION

Menstruation is not an obstacle to surgery, but if you feel uncomfortable, you can postpone the surgery until your period is over. Please contact us well in advance.

PREGNANCY AND BREASTFEEDING

We do not perform any surgeries during pregnancy, and it is very important that you inform us if your last menstruation is delayed. The same applies to the period when you are breastfeeding.

BIRTH CONTROL PILLS

Please inform us if you are taking birth control pills.

VITAMINS, HEALTH SUPPLEMENTS, AND DIETARY SUPPLEMENTS

Please avoid taking certain vitamins, dietary supplements, herbal medicines, and health products a week before the surgery, as they can increase your tendency to bleed.

SMOKING, CHEWING GUM, AND ALCOHOL

It is important to be free from smoking, snus (Swedish smokeless tobacco), and nicotine for a certain period before and after your surgery. This also applies to e-cigarettes. Be smoke-, snus-, and nicotine-free for 2 weeks up to a month depending on the type of surgery. Also refrain from nicotine gum, nicotine patches, and similar products.

Smoking can affect the body’s natural healing by reducing blood flow, which can lead to complications. To avoid this, you should abstain from all forms of nicotine.

It is also recommended that you avoid alcohol at least 7 days before the operation and at least 2 weeks after. This can help reduce the risk of bleeding and infections.

SHAVING

Shaving, hair removal, or waxing in or near the area to be operated on should not be done during the week before the surgery. This is because it often leads to small wounds and skin damage, which increases the risk of infections.

PETS

If you have pets, it is especially important to maintain good hand hygiene and avoid having the animals in bed during the first week after surgery. Be sure to make the bed clean before the first night at home. This also applies to anyone who has contact with the animals.
